Abstract
The purpose of this research was to find out appropriate methods for a pepper harvester by analyzing physical properties and harvest efficiency of 12 commercial pepper cultivars. We measured total 12 physical properties of pepper plants and fruits, including the length and width of pepper plants, the length and diameter of stems, and the length, diameter, and weight of fruits, the number of fruits on each plant, the ripeness ratio, moisture content, and tensile forces of 90° and 180°. Performance of picking head part of the harvester was analyzed by measuring the harvest efficiency and the number of whole fruits, fruits connected with twig, and damaged fruits. As a result, this study revealed that the physical properties and the harvest efficiency of peppers were significantly different among pepper cultivars.
