Abstract
We propose a 2-ms nematic LC mode without alignment layers. Three-terminal electrode structure is used to apply in-plane and vertical fields to the LC cell. Initially, nematic LCs are randomly aligned. The dark state and bright state are obtained by applying vertical and in-plane fields to the cell, respectively. We achieved the total response time of less than 2 ms in the proposed mode.
