Abstract

Through interviews with directors providing care services at Community Child Centers(CCC), this study examined development plans for CCC in rural areas. Four directors working at four Community Child Centers in rural areas of Jeollabuk-do province, South Korea, were interviewed. FGI (Focus Group Interview) was the qualitative research method used in the study. The major findings were as follows: First, 'they feel that Community Child Centers in rural areas are institutionally vulnerable', Second, 'they think that they should provide after-school care services for all eligible children in their areas', Third, 'they realize the difficult situation that CCC in rural areas are in.', Forth, 'they form positive relationships with schools.' Fifth, 'they are finding the unique strengths or capabilities of their CCC in rural areas.', Sixth, 'they feel that CCC are becoming valuable resources in rural areas.' In conclusion, the implications of this research for social welfare policy are discussed.
