Abstract
An electrostatic model for the stability of ω-mercaptoundecanoic acid (MUA) monolayer protected silver nanoparticles has been discussed. ω-mercaptoundecanoic acid capped silver nanoparticles with an average size of 15 nm were prepared by citrate reduction technique and were followed by UV-visible spectroscopy. The thiol capped silver nanoparticles were investigated by transmission electron microscopy. FTIR spectra also supported the interaction of ω-mercaptoundecanoic acid on the silver nanoparticle surfaces. The stability of these particles has been explained by considering the electrostatic theory and kinetic theory simultaneously.
