Abstract
Today, the energy saving of network equipment has become an important issue increasingly. IEEE Std 802.3az proposed Low Power Idle (LPI) to reduce energy consumption of network devices in 2010. 9. In this paper, we adapt LPI to Optical Burst Switching (OBS) network which is considered as one of promising solutions in the future network. In previous papers of OBS network, burst assemble algorithms have been just focused on network performance, even though burst assemble algorithm can be used to improve energy saving. In this sense, we propose Constraint based Dynamic Burst Assemble (CDBA) algorithm which adjusts burst assemble time dynamically to maximize energy saving with acceptable burst length and packet delay. OPNET simulation results of CDBA algorithm demonstrate that it can achieve 30% energy saving compared with traditional burst assemble algorithms while guaranteeing acceptable QoS.
