Control of flutter of suspension bridge deck using TMD

Abstract

This interesting paper presented passive control of the flutter condition of suspension bridges using a combined vertical and torsional tuned mass damper(TMD). Based on the numerical simulations, some optimal parameters such as the mass ratio, the damping ratio and tuning ratio of TMD, and the number of TMDs were proposed for improving flutter velocity of suspension bridge. Discusser would like to provide some comments on the methodology applied to the paper and on the results given in the paper.
