Abstract

This article describes the first case of dermatomycosis caused by Paecilomyces variotii in an African pygmy hedgehog (Atelerix albiventris). The internal transcribed spacer region along with the β-tubulin and calmodulin genes were partially sequenced and compared with sequences in the GenBank database to confirm the identification of the pathogen. Treatment with oral itraconazole was effective.
