Abstract

This paper presents the effect of a vertical load distribution and the stability on the slope of an exploration rover with a movable center of mass. By changing the center of body mass of the exploration rover, we confirm that the trafficability to obstacles and stability on slope terrain can be significantly improved. The rover test platform with the rotation mechanism of a rover body is designed to realize the movable center of mass. The rotation mechanism consists of pitching and rolling hubs, which operate as worm gears.
