Destination Development Through Sport Event Tourism (SET) in the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ): A Descriptive Analysis Approach

The primary objectives of this study are fourfold. First, it aims to review the existing body of literature related to both tourism studies and the Korean DMZ, in order to establish a foundational understanding of current academic discourse. Second, the study seeks to identify critical factors that influence destination development through sport events and related forms of tourism, particularly within politically sensitive regions like the DMZ. Third, based on the literature review and thematic insights, the study proposes a conceptual model that outlines how the DMZ can be strategically developed as a tourism destination through sport events. This model serves as a framework for integrating tourism planning, destination branding, and peacebuilding efforts. Finally, the study provides recommendations and directions for future research to further expand knowledge in this interdisciplinary field.
