Development of a simulating contents program for the estimation of visitor counting

Estimating and counting the number of visitors in a local area is an important issue because it is basic data to set up an economic plan, community facilities, environmental protection and so forth. Most of the studies use the equipment such as CCTV (Closed Circuit Television), cameras and sensors for counting visitors. In this study, we explore the method for estimating the number of visitors based on probability distribution. The goal of this article is not to propose a method for estimation of visitors, but rather to develop a simulating contents based on a virtual image map for the estimation of visitor counting. With the contents, students can get a better understanding of the concepts on probability distribution, sampling distribution, and statistical inference as well as estimating the number of visitors.
