Abstract

Widely commercialized twisted nematic liquid crystal (TN LC) mode for displays has some problems such as narrow viewing angle and gray scale inversion. To improve gray scale inversion, dual domain was employed through formations of different pretilt angle in each domain using reactive mesogen (RM) monomer. The domain with high pretilt angle is formed by polymerization of UV-curable RM when applying vertical field. In this way, dual domain is formed and gray scale inversion of mid-gray level is improved especially in lower direction.
