N2 - Helmholtz resonators have been widely used in the engine intake and exhaust systems for noise control at low frequencies. The resonance frequency of this silencer is, in general, required to be precisely tuned near a target frequency. However, this frequency may be altered by the presence of holes or gaps (leakage) in the cavity walls. The present study investigates the effect of leakage between the cavity and main duct on the transmission loss of a Helmholtz resonator. This type of leakage is shown to increase the resonance frequency, while broadening the transmission loss.
