Effective photocatalytic dye degradation using low temperature grown zinc oxide nanostructures

Abstract

The present work reports on the synthesis of highly dense zinc oxide (ZnO) nanochips via the hydrothermal process and checks their photocatalytic activity on the way to the degradation of crystal violet (Cv) dye. The synthesized materials possessed the chips like morphology having the average thickness of 20 nm with typical wurtzite hexagonal structure. The structure and composition of synthesized materials were analyzed by UV/VIS, EDX, XPS, and Raman spectroscopy. The synthesized ZnO-nanochips were used as photocatalyst in photodegradation process of Cv-dye under illumination of light and presented a rapid degradation of Cv-dye.
