Abstract

A device that overcomes the problems of low transmittance and low CR of the IT mode by employing an electrode structure that can generate a fringe-electric field. As such, the device shows a black state before voltage is applied and appears to be white when applying a fringe-electric field. Furthermore, the device can be used as a normally white display by controlling the surface anchoring strength of the bottom layer.
