Abstract

A fiber laser sensor system is operated based on travelling-wave operation. It uses photo-generated Bragg gratings as frequency-selective reflectors and sensor heads. The temperature sensitivities of the gratings are the same because they are fabricated from the same fiber. In the loop resonator that is composed of a wavelength flattened four-port directional coupler, 980 nm laser diode pumped gain section and optical isolator are inserted to ensure unidirectional operation. The output wavelengths of the sensor were measured by an optical spectrum analyzer while both strain and temperature were applied to the sensor head simultaneously.
