Abstract
This study reports the detailed genotypic characterization of VP7 gene of group A bovine rotavirus in Korea and a new strain JB-1 detected in Southern Korea (Jeonbuk province). Comparison of deduced amino acid sequence of the major neutralizing antigen, VP7, indicated that JB-1 was closely related not only to prototype G6 bovine strains but also to the unusual human G6 viruses isolated from children in Australia, Italy and Hungary. Phylogenetic analyses however showed a clear distinction in clusters according to the species of origin with JB-1 sequences being more closely related to typical bovine strains than to human G6 strains. The results indicate that the JB-1 strain is a typical bovine G6 serotype.
