Abstract

A new HP As-polymer composite material with iodine/iodide was designed as a polymeric electrolyte for the fabrication of solid state dye sensitized solar cell. In this work, we made an effort to HPAs blended with polyethylene oxide (PEO) using a common (Acetonitrile) or mixed solvent (chloroform: methanol) for complete miscibility and finally with iodide/iodine used as a solid electrolyte. With this pioneering composite (HPAs/PEO), we have used successfully HPAs-PEO based gel electrolyte for the fabrication the DSSCs. A typical photocurrent-voltage (I-V) curves of fabricated DSSCs are shown an open circuit voltage of 0.520 volt and a short circuit current of 9.2 mA/cm2 with 3% overall conversion efficiency of these quasi solid state cells at 100mW/cm2. This is the first reported attempt to use HPA blended PEO with iodine/iodide based solid electrolytes and achieved comparably good conversion efficiency with earlier solid state DSSCs.
