Abstract
In this paper, we propose a hybrid automatic repeat request (ARQ) techniques using rate compatible (RC) block turbo codes. We use a high dimensional product code and divide it into the information block and a number of parity blocks. We form RC product codes using various combinations of these blocks. We show that the proposed RC product code combined with the hybrid ARQ highly improves the system throughput using the simulation results on a mobile satellite channel, and it can also be an effective solution to compensate rain attenuation and multipath fading in mobile satellite systems.
