Abstract

The purpose of this review is to provide a critical analysis of the impact behavior of automotive grade medium manganese steel (MMnS), with a specific focus on the advancements made in fundamental research. An effective review of works pertaining to the impact behavior of thermomechanically processed MMnS has been executed, with a focus on various factors such as alloying elements, plastic deformation, rolling temperature, heat treatment schedules, and ductile-to-brittle transition temperature. In addition, the future scopes and challenges of MMnS are elucidated in the present work. It is observed that increased annealing temperatures in MMnS result in enhanced impact toughness, attributed to the extended crack length and elevated austenite content.
