Abstract

Conventional rectal catheters, which are used for measurement of abdominal pressure, can cause erroneous results that affect detrusor pressure. An improved method of measuring the continuous abdominal pressure in a non-invasive manner using the surface electromyographic (EMG) signals of the rectus abdominis muscle is devised. This method showed that the surface EMG of the rectus abdominis muscle should be able to be used indirectly for measurement of abdominal pressure in ambulatory urodynamics monitoring studies.
