Improved CAN compression algorithm by data reordering

Abstract

Controller Area Network (CAN) has become the most widely used protocol in automotive network due to its efficiency and robustness. However, CAN bus with its limited bandwidth may get overloaded due to the increase of the bus load. Thus, it is important to reduce the amount of data to be transferred without reducing the amount of information. In this paper, we propose a data reordering algorithm for efficient CAN data compression. It is shown that we can achieve up to 50% more compression ratios by the proposed algorithm.
