Abstract
Previously, we have suggested the novel hybrid aligned nematic liquid crystal display by fringe field, where pixel and common electrodes exist only on bottom substrates. The device shows wider viewing angle than that of the TN mode with high light efficiency and low driving voltage. Nevertheless, the device exhibits non-uniform light luminance depending on viewing angle in on state. Recently, we have developed an improved device that has a common electrode even at top substrate. With new device, we can acquire the improved electro-optic characteristics such as relatively low operation voltage and good uniform light luminance in on state.
