Abstract
The present investigation focuses on the microstructure evolution and impact behavior of Fe-9.42Mn-4.3Al-0.2C-1.27Si (wt%) steel subjected to thermomechanical processing following annealing at 750 °C for 60, 120, and 180 min. Electron backscatter diffraction analysis reveals the presence of a multi-phase microstructure consisting of blocky and lath-type γ-austenite, fine α-ferrite, and coarse δ-ferrite in all the samples. When exposed to the Charpy impact test, the sample annealed at 750 °C for 120 min displays the highest impact energy compared to others owing to the strong transformation-induced plasticity effect. To enhance the understanding of the micro-mechanism behind fracture, scanning electron microscopy is employed to analyze the fracture surface.
