Abstract
Inorganic nanomaterials including metals, magnetic nanostructures, carbon-based nanomaterials, quantum dots, and layered double hydroxides have been extensively explored in the research fields in biochemistry, biotechnology, and biomedicine ranging from bioimaging to diagnosis and therapies. This chapter outlines the current state-of-the-art applications of various inorganic nanomaterials in cancer theranostics including imaging, targeted drug delivery, and treatment. The facile synthesis/conjugation/functionalization approaches of each category will be highlighted focusing on their applications in cargo (chemotherapeutics/gene/photosensitizer), cancer imaging (fluorescence, bioluminescence, magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography, etc.), therapy (photodynamic/photothermal), and diagnostics.
