Abstract

Single palladium (Pd) nanowires were fabricated by electrodeposition in electrolyte channels patterned with electron-beam lithography, and hydrogen sensing was investigated. The fabrication technique allowed to produce nanowires with controlled dimensions, positions, alignments, and chemical compositions, enabling the use of a wide range of materials for creating arrays of single nanowire sensors. The process produced sensor arrays that are capable of sensing multiple chemical species simultaneously. The results show that Pd nanowire sensor exhibits a fast response time with ultralow power consumption and that the growth of nanowires using such a technique would allow for easy integration with existing silicon technology.
