Abstract
This study was made to develop low density board made of rice hulls which need a proper use. Phenol formaldehyde adhesive (PF) was used. The raw material was a mixture of rice hulls from IllFum, DongGin, ChuChong and others. The physical and mechanical properties of rice hull insulation board are examined, and results were as follows: The proper manufacturing conditions for the 15 mm thickness of insulation rice hull board of B class (Korean standard), which is bonded with PF resin, were 170°C for the hot pressing temperature with a distance bar, 9 percent of resin solid contents of rice hull oven-dry weight, and 20 minutes of hot pressing time. These conditions met Korean standards (KS) in relation to free formaldehyde emissions (E0), bending strength, water absorption, and heat resistance.
