Abstract

The Pohang light source (PLS), a low emittance third generation synchroton radiation source, was analyzed with respect to the beam-gas scattering lifetime. Very low electron beam intensity and vacuum pressure increase by helium injection were employed for the elimination of the Touschek effect in beam-gas scattering lifetime measurement. The interdependence of acceptance limiting aperture size and Coulomb lifetime was investigated by employing two vertical beam scrapers. The results established the importance of vacuum for PLS under the installation of small gap undulators.
