Abstract
An efficient location management plays an important role in cellular mobile communication networks. The two basic operations of location management are location registration and paging. Many schemes were proposed in view of making the registration and paging operations more eflicient. However, most of these schemes still use the paging strategies that may cause a large amount of paging cost. This study proposes a unidirection-based registration (uniDIR) scheme using a line-paging strategy in order to reduce paging cost. The final scheme was compared to other schemes with similar properties and the results showed that in most cases the proposed uniDIR outperforms direction-based scheme as well as distant scheme.
