Abstract

Full waveform inversion (FWI) with acoustic approximation for VTI media have been performed with different modeling techniques. The decomposed equation with mono-component has an advantages of computational efficiency and no S-wave artifact in terms of forward modeling. However, the scattering pattern using single wave equation is quite different from the elastic scattering theory. In this abstract, we propose using vector wavefields to compute the gradient in the FWI algorithm. By converting the mono-component (pressure) source and receiver wavefields into the two-component particle displacements using the equation of motion on the staggered grids, we can obtain vector virtual sources to compute the gradient direction.
