Abstract

The conventional patterned vertical alignment (PVA) device shows a very high contrast ratio at normal direction and does not require rubbing process. However, the device requires patterning on both top and bottom electrodes, which gives rise to additional process and requires excellent assembling of top and bottom substrates in order to exhibit a high performance. In this paper, we investigated electro-optical properties of the novel vertical alignment device with two transistors and pattern free of the top electrode. The device shows a fast response time and less color shift and also simple manufacture processing.
