Abstract

Mg xZn 1-xO thin films with different Mg contents were prepared by using the sol-gel spin-coating method. Optical parameters, such as the optical band gap, the absorption coefficient, the Urbach energy, the refractive index, the dispersion parameter, and the optical conductivity, were studied in order to investigate the effects of Mg content on the optical properties of Mg xZn 1-xO thin films. The optical band gap and the Urbach energy increased with increasing Mg content. The dispersion energy, the single-oscillator energy, the average oscillator wavelength, the average oscillator strength, and the refractive index at infinite wavelength of the Mg xZn 1-xO thin films were affected by the incorporation. Also, the optical conductivity of the Mg xZn 1-xO thin films increased with increasing photon energy.
