Abstract
Spot weldment is becoming a standard of fatigue design, as a starting point to measure fatigue failure of a vehicle. Spot welding is a very fast process, whose many factors affect the generation of welding defects. Not only are experimental factors difficult to control, but also stress distributions are difficult to monitor in practical cases. The optimum welding conditions of spot weldments are very important in obtaining the reliability and durability of a spot-welded steel sheet used for the body of a vehicle. Optimum spot welding conditions are selected from random welding conditions on the basis of the probability concept by genetic algorithm. The welding conditions created by the genetic algorithm would be considered reasonable because they are within the range of errors compared with experimental results.
