Abstract
Silk fibroin (SF) has been widely used as an artificial bone material due to the good mechanical properties and cell compatibility. Recently it have been studied as hybrid silk scaffold with the addition of various materials because it has vulnerability. In this study, we manufactured hydroxyapatite (HAp)/SF hybrid scaffolds to complement the disadvantage of the SF. HAp/SF hybrid scaffolds were measured to study the mechanical/biological characteristics through SEM, EDS, measurement of water uptake, porosity, compressive strength, MTT assay, ALP activity and mRNAs expression. These results showed HAp/SF hybrid scaffold has excellent properties as a scaffold for bone tissue engineering and potential for inducing osteogenesis from rabbit bone marrow-mesenchymal stem cells (rBMSCs).
