Performance evaluation indicators for Social enterprises in Korea: Future policy directions

Social enterprises are enterprises that form part of the social economy, and this characteristic has led to much discussion, from various points of view, about satisfactory ways of evaluating their performance, and about sustainability. Against this background, this paper aims to construct performance evaluation indicators applicable to social enterprises in Korea. In doing so, it employs the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method of analysis to prioritize the indicators of social enterprise performance in terms of weight. The analysis shows that the indicator 'Diversifying financial support sources' included in the financial factor category has the highest weight score, followed by 'Market protection measures' and 'Expansion of the role of social enterprises', implying that the 'Financial factors' and 'Institutional factors' that are involved in the activities of social enterprises should be regarded as more important than other factors.
