Abstract

Hydrogen could be produced photocatalytically from natural seawater with simple pre-treatments as demonstrated with La2Ti2O7 suspension under ultraviolet light, CdS/TiO2 suspension under visible light, and Fe2O3 film under photoelectrochemical conditions. In all cases, the formation of harmful chlorine gas was not detected. The role of salts in the seawater was elucidated.
