Abstract
A transflective liquid crystal display (TR-LCDs) associated with vertical alignment (VA) mode is proposed. The transmissive part (T-part) includes patterned electrodes such as PVA mode, but reflective part (R-part) has plane electrode and initial high prêtât angle of LC. In the T-part, we simulated 2 conditions with 1-domain and 2-domain to achieve good transmittance. To perform good dark state without compensation film in R-part, we proposed different pretilt angle in red, green, and blue unit pixel. With this approach, light leakage was minimized in R-part with single gap structure. The device shows high reflectance with good contrast ratio.
