Abstract
This chapter introduces PUMPS (piezoelectric unimorph with mechanically prestressed substrate) actuator and some of its applications. PUMPS, was developed by the present authors, is a new curved-shaped pre-stressed piezoelectric actuator that uses a simple mechanical fabrication process at room temperature. The performance test results on the PUMPS actuator show that the actuation capabilities of PUMPS are comparable to those of other conventional pre-stressed piezoelectric actuators. Some applications of PUMPS are also introduced.
