Reducing cost of TAL-based mobility management in LTE networks

Research output: Contribution to journalJournal articlepeer-review

Abstract

In LTE network, the network is composed of the tracking areas (TAs) i.e. a group of cells, and several TAs make a TA list (TAL). In this study, a mobility management scheme called TAL-based registration (TbR) is considered for Long term evolution (LTE) network. A new registration scheme to reduce the total cost, and a mathematical model to analyze the total cost of TbR are proposed. First, the new registration scheme reduces the total cost of TbR by introducing cell-based central policy. Next, in order to mathematically analyze the performance of TbR a Markov chain model based on 2-D random walk model is used, and it is evident through analysis that the proposed scheme is superior to previous schemes. Through various numerical results, it was established that the proposed scheme is more effective than previous schemes.
