Abstract
Ja-Yong Koo, Hanchul Kim, and other researchers present their views on the interpretation of Owen and Bowler of the ordering of the adsorbed NH3 molecules across the silicon (Si) dimer rows on the Si(001) surface are presented. The researchers stressed the significance of the ordering of the NH3 molecules by using room temperature (RT) scanning tunneling microscopy (STM). These two researchers also disagreed with the interpretation of the STM features in the initial-stage NH3 self-assembly on Si(001) and proposed a different interpretation. It was been well recognized that an NH3 molecule forms a dative bond with the down Si atom of a buckled Si dimer and undergoes dissociative adsorption by liberating an hydrogen (H) atom in case identification of STM features of the individual adsorbed NH3 molecule. It is observed that the fragments of NH3 and H can reside on a single dimer, or on-dimer (OD) configuration.
