Abstract

We have demonstrated electric field induced stretching phenomenon of multi-walled (MW) and single-walled (SW) carbon nanotubes (CNT's) in host liquid crystal medium. The stretching is found to begin after application of certain threshold field. Interestingly, the stretched CNT clusters exhibit the selective light absorption phenomenon so that it can be applied as a light modulator or tunable optical polarizer.
