Abstract

As the global luxury goods market expands, understanding consumer motivations and buying behaviors becomes increasingly important. Two key psychological drivers of luxury purchase intention are status consumption and the need for uniqueness. However, research has yet to explore the interaction between these factors in predicting luxury purchase intentions. In a survey of 156 UK residents, we found that the positive relationship between status consumption and luxury purchase intention weakens as the need for uniqueness increases, and vice versa. We discuss the implications of these findings for both theory and practice.
