Abstract
Tuberculous dactylitis is a rare manifestation of adult skeletal tuberculosis. A 73-year-old man with painful swelling of the left middle finger underwent Tc-99m MDP 3-phase bone scintigraphy. Perfusion and blood pool images showed diffusely increased activity around the proximal phalanx and metacarpal head of the left middle finger with focal uptake in the region of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. Delayed imaging showed intensely increased uptake in the bony region adjacent to the PIP joint. These findings corresponded to the destructive lesions on radiographs and soft tissue abscess on ultrasonogram. An open biopsy with curettage confirmed tuberculosis.
