The effects of economic status on adolescent health: The mediating effects of psycho-social factors

The study investigated the effects of economic status on adolescent health in South Korea and the mediating effect of psycho-social factors such as self-esteem, parent attachment and community satisfaction. The data for this study came from 1,088 middle and high school students. The results are as follows: first, economic status effected adolescent health negatively and psycho-social factors effected adolescent health positively. Second, the psycho-social factors which are self-esteem, parent attachment, community satisfaction partially mediated the effects of economic status on adolescent health. In other words, economic status had an indirect effect on adolescent health through these psycho-social factors as well as a direct effect. In conclusion, the implications of these results are discussed.
