Abstract

The use of a diagnostic radiopharmaceutical of transferrin-chitosan conjugates, Tc-99m labeled conjugates, for transferrin receptor molecular imaging was investigated. Transferrin receptors were expressed on the surfaces of tumor and inflammatory cells. Transferrins in the inflammatory site were found to leak from vessels due to vascular permeability, bind to transferrin receptor on leukocytes and bacteria. The results show that by using Tc-99m transferrin-chitosan conjugate, transferrin receptor on cell surface can be seen by using Tc-99m transferrin-chitosan conjugates.
