Abstract
As the interests of renewable energy increase drastically, various wind farms are being constructed in Europe because it has the highest economic feasibility among new and renewable energies. Evaluation of wind power is of prime importance to validate the feasibility of wind farm. KEPRI(Korea Electric Power Research Institute) has conducted 'Feasibility Study on offshore wind farm design' project to construct the 100MW class offshore wind farm at the coast of Korean peninsula. As a part of this project, assessment of offshore wind energy around Korean peninsula has been accomplished with various data of simulations and measurements at offshore sites. In this paper, existing offshore wind data acquired with buoys of Korea Meteorological Administration and QuickSCAT data of an artificial satellite are analyzed. Also annual energy production and capacity factor are calculated with the aid of a wind map which is constructed by simulations with high resolution at the coast of Korean peninsula.
